A Flat Tax is just one of the ideas coming from the IRS so-called "Scandal" hearing pit. This "Simple Solution" was presented by Ted before the hearing on the IRS keyword use that the IRS had already found, stopped, and reported. Ted says get rid of it altogether. "Mr. President, if your number one priority is fixing the problem, let’s abolish the IRS and ensure it NEVER happens again." He is pushing for a Flat Tax built to allow deductions for "charitable contributions, home mortgage and how much you owe." Simple indeed.
But when one gets down to it this all-or-nothing chanting is part of how backward those who want to be seen as progressive can be. From Libertarian to Teaparty we have groups that assume that we have to kill America to allow her to live. They assume America must be choked to death and programs to help Americans must be stopped while only those things they support must be set in place. Take that simple Flat Tax deduction he doesn't mind deducting - The Church. Why the exception for the church if everything else goes? Either call for a flat tax with no exceptions or get back to the hearing to pretend a fix. Why scatter the brain cells?
Don't get me wrong, I think the idea of Flat Tax is compelling but the flaws make it, "simply" flawed. No one explains it when they call for it so few realize just how problematic it can be. We never hear a discussion on the reach-arounds and how needy it would be on import/export that could turn America into a isolated Island economically. The problems inherently built into it is what keeps Flat Tax from happening. There is no such thing as a flat tax. It would be an IRS new model and the workarounds would be as problematic or cumbersome as the current tax system is and too simplistic to be healthy or controllable.
So back to the hearing: It is an opportunity for the fringe groups to act out and present their "Suggestions" and "Ideas" rather than to resolve anything. The initial IRS keyword discovery, fix, report, and investigation resolved most of it so this dog and pony show is to highlight the dreamers, dingbats, and flaws of Congress as they parade their "interesting" fringe groups calling for an America only they recognize, only they demand, only they see. America moved forward long ago in spite of the Teaparty, Libertarians, and fringe groups who have forgotten they are actually republicans with a new label, but we are forced to drown in their "clucks," "chants," and "simple ideas" someone found carved on cave walls from a simpler time. But seriously, keep your Flat Tax that isn't a Flat Tax if you don't even know that your list of exceptions is showing the first flaw of the "simple" idea.
Get back to the IRS hearing where not thinking is required and just as unproductive.
